On today’s post, I share with you 16 of my kitchen essentials to start living a healthier life. I already talked in previous posts that I was felling very sick in September of 2019 and after that, I decided to make a big change in my whole lifestyle and start eating healthier foods that could help to heal some of my problems like hormonal imbalance, adult acne, food intolerances and allergies.
Before start the post, I want to say that no matter if you are thinking in make big changes as I did, or just want to start being healthier in your way and time. I truly recommend these items for everyone, because they certainly will help you to make your life in the kitchen easier and in the journey to have a healthier life!
Contextualizing a little bit… After I went to the doctor and do not have a proper treatment to resolve my issues, or at least not the one I was looking for, without a lot of medications and hormonal drugs that didn’t work anymore for me and just to try to control the symptoms, I realized that I needed to do something for my health. I shouldn’t just accept the treatment that the doctor indicated me, stay controlling the symptoms and seeing my general health getting worse every month.
The doctor said that my issues aren’t so bad and I should came back in few months to follow to symptoms. She indicated me about five different medications just to help with the symptoms and gave me the option of do not have any of them, if I didn’t want because it wasn’t too bad. And that’s what I did!
Instead of that, I started to research and read a lot on books and the internet, searching for scientific articles, trusted websites and materials that could help me first of all, to understand what I had and what I needed to do to get better more naturally as possible, since I wasn’t going to take any medication. I’ve learned a lot these past months and I’m still learning so many things about what I need to change on my habits, diet and inside of my home that could help to have a healthier life and treat my problems.
The first thing I’ve changed, of course, was my daily diet. I started learning how to cook new healthy recipes and eat more at home, instead of buying read to go foods. My husband and I also started to invest in new items to make our lives easier in that process and change our habits in the kitchen.
My first and very successful changes were eat way more vegetables in every meal, reduce my red meat intake, completely eliminate caffeine, refined sugars, carbs, and eat how many fruits as possible per day.
I also eliminate dairy (that made my acne worse), grains, gluten and eggs. I started to make my owns almond milk, ice creams, zucchini noodles, orange juice, smoothies, vegetables/chicken broths and sauces. Everything homemade, with fresh and healthier ingredients, without any kind of preservatives, thickeners or added sugars, that can be bad for the health and worse my allergies, food intolerances and hormonal imbalance.
So… that definitely can be theme for another blog posts about my recipes or things I’m doing to get better. But for today, you can see some of my favorite and first items that I recommend for those who are looking to start living a healthier life, maybe don’t know how to start and need of some advice.
The items have very affordable prices and you can find most of them on Amazon, Ikea or Kohl’s. We have the Prime membership, so everything we buy on Amazon have discounts and the delivery time is of one to two days in most cases.

1 – Vegetable Spaghetti Zucchini Noodles Maker – Amazon – $16.99
A very affordable vegetables spiralizer. Great to make zucchini noodles, a very healthy, low carb option for the conventional pasta.
2 – 12 Pack Reusable Stainless Steel Metal Straws – Amazon – $5.99
I’m trying to reduce my plastic use at home. So, I bought this kit of reusable straws to drink my smoothies.
3 – 12 Pack Ball Wide Mouth Mason Jars 16 oz – Amazon – $28.99
I’m in love with these mason jars and I’m using them for almost everything! Since to storage products in the pantry, until storage my greens, sauces and broths in the fridge.
4 – Full Circle The Ring Fruit and Vegetable Cleaning Brush – Amazon – $4.99
This woody brush is perfect to wash the veggies when we buy the groceries of the week.
5 – Silicone Frozen Ice Popsicle Maker BPA Free 50 Popsicle Sticks/Bags – Amazon $16.47
I simply love ice cream and ice popsicle! And who said you can’t eat ice cream and still be healthy? You just need to do that with the right ingredients! The kit also came with a little book with healthy and delicious ice popsicle recipes.
6 – KitchenAid 3.5 Cup Food Chopper – Kohl’s – $39.99
It’s great to process herbs and make sauces without water. We bought this small food processor because I don’t like to make homemade sauces in large quantities in view of they don’t last long in the refrigerator, unless you freeze them. So, for my husband and me, it’s good this small one. But you can find bigger. I also like to buy on Kohl’s’ website because they always have sales and, although the delivery time is longer, sometimes, you can find better prices than on amazon.
7 – KitchenAid Meat Thermometer – Amazon – $14.99
It’s very important to cook meat properly, because consume raw meat can be very bad for the health. I like this manual thermometer because it shows the right temperature for the main types of meats. Mine isn’t that from KitchenAid, but I couldn’t find it anymore and also like this one.
8 – 4 Pack Empty Clear/Amber Glass Spray Bottle 16 Ounce with Trigger Sprayers – Amazon – $14.95
These glass bottles are great to make your own cleaning products and stop using those with a lot of chemicals that can be very harmful for the our health. The kit came with substitute sprayers and four labels to writing the products names.
Not too many labels as you can see on the third picture. These other are from another purchase and I will show them when I write my pantry organization soon.
9 – Black+Decker 32oz Citrus Juicer White – Amazon – $19.96
I like this simple and very affordable citrus juicer! It’s great to make my own orange juice and stop buying juice bottles full of conservatives and added sugars as you can find in all the supermarkets. You still can reduce the consume of plastic bottles.
10 – Clear Glass Bottle with Stopper 34 oz – Ikea – $2.99
It’s great to put your own nut milk. I made mine one or two times a week and it last for until 5 days or more in the fridge.

11 – The Complete Book of Clean: Tips & Techniques for Your Home – Amazon – $13.10
I bought this book recently because I want to learn how to clean my home more naturally as possible and make my own natural cleaning products. You will certainly love this book, which is very well designed and has a lot of informations that can help you with all the household activities and also make your home healthier.
12 – Glass Food Container with Plastic Lid 34 oz – Ikea – $4.99
In fact, I wanted the containers with bamboo lids from Ikea, but we thought they were a little bit expensive and we had other priorities. So, I bought these ones of glass but with plastic + silicon lids that are also very good to storage foods in the fridge and reduce our use of plastic containers. The lids have a very good quality and the most important for us is that container itself is not of cheap plastic and they preserve the food for longer.
I’m not too much rigorous about completely eliminate plastic of my routine, but I want to do this as much as I can. However, this is definitely a gradual work! I still use plastic to go to grocery stores, in a few utensils and products at home, including some of these above that are partially made of good quality plastic. But start changing your diet and habits in the kitchen is a very good way to have a healthier life!

These cotton nut bags are just perfect to make almond milk in a practical, simple way.
14 – KitchenAid 5-Speed Blender – Kohl’s – $104.99
I love the KitchenAid utensils and always we can, we bought of them for our kitchen. The blender, in fact is the most important utensil nowadays in my kitchen, because I use it every single day to make my morning smoothies, my almond milk, ice cream and sauces.
15 – KitchenAid 2-Speed Hand Blender – Kohl’s – $39.99
The hand blender is also great and helps a lot to make creamy soups and tomato sauce in a easier way, because you can blend everything in the pan without need to use other utensils.
16 – Healthy Cookbook for Two: 175 Simple, Delicious Recipes to Enjoy Cooking for Two – Amazon – $ 13.68
I’ve loved to buy new books and magazines always we can to learn new healthy recipes and I also like to pin my favorite recipes from websites on Pinterest.
We have the conventional version “The complete cookbook for two”, but this healthy version is the next on my book list for this year and I’m pretty sure that we will love it. The book is very complete, with many recipes and information about the foods preparation and it’s very good even if you have a bigger family.
