Favorite Series to Watch This Year and a Checklist Page for Free Print

Favorite series to watch this year and a checklist page for free print

Today’s post is for you who also love watching TV series. I will share below all my favorite series of recent times for you to watch this year, along with my brief opinion, trailers and where to watch them. And to finish, at the end of the post, a ‘Series Checklist’ page for FREE PRINT.

Most of them are available on Netflix and the last ones are on Amazon Prime Video. The checklist page have my 16 recommendations and more space for you to write others series to watch.

I just finished “The Originals” and “Legacies” this month, two series that I was obsessed with and I couldn’t stop watching until the end. Every time I finish a good show, I feel a complete emptiness in my heart and I already start to think about what would be the next. rsrsrs… 😀 So, I am also looking for new ones to watch, and if anyone has more suggestions, please, tell me in the comments what you’ve been watching lately.

Hope you enjoy all the recommendations and the checklist page!

[Spoiler alert!]

This post may contain spoilers of the Series I list below, if you watch some non official trailers or other informations I linked here.

1 – Anne With an E – Netflix.

Anne with an E has been the most delightful of all the series I have watched recently. Initially titled Anne for its first season, is a Canadian episodic television series adapted from Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic work of children’s literature, Anne of Green Gables. I had heard about this series for months, with controversial opinions, many in favor, others judging a lot. And I confess that I didn’t have many expectations. But after I started a few months ago, I couldn’t stop until the end.

Unfortunately, the series has already been canceled, but you can find the 3 seasons on Netflix. In the beginning, you may find Anne’s character a little bit annoying and chatty, but right after a few episodes you will fall in love with the history, her kindness and innocence, which has a mix of romance and drama. And also, talk about facts that happened in the late 19th century, such as feminism and woman rights. In the 3 seasons you can watch Anne starting as a curious and orphan child and becoming a strong, brave and intelligent teenager.

2 – The Vampire Diaries – Netflix.

I know that this series is old, but I’m completely addicted to vampire novels. So, you need to know that you will find a lot of this genre on my recommendations. The Vampire Diaries is an American supernatural teen drama television series based on the popular book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith.

To be quite honest on this post, I loved Vampire Diaries on the first five seasons, but I need to confess that the series has lost the sense for me in the last three. I liked ‘The Originals’ and ‘Legacies’ much more, which I recommend below.

The ideal is to watch ‘The Vampire Diaries’ first, so you can understand ‘The Originals’ and ‘Legacies’, which are two spinoff’s of the series. That’s why I recommend TVD here too. By the way, I love a good vampire romance, with all that drama and teenage passion. So, even though things don’t make a lot of sense at the end, it’s worth having fun and following Elena, Stefan and Damon, if you’ve never watched. All the eight seasons are available on Netflix.

3 – The Originals – Netflix.

I need to confess that Klaus is my favorite character ever! Anne and Klaus are my favorites! It’s difficult to understand how one person can like two characters so extreme, one so good and innocent, and the other completely evil. Hahah. But the truth is that after a few episodes and understanding more about the Original Family’s history, you start to cheer for the 1000-year-old hybrid evil vampire and for the happiness of his family.

The episodes are full of action, drama, suspense, many magic and violent scenes, involving vampires, werewolves and witches, set in the city of New Orleans. It’s magical and intriguing, and you always end an episode wanting to see more and more. Even for me that always hated violent series and movies. In fact, the scenes are more magical than realistic, and does not exceed the limit in my opinion. So, it’s really worth watching if you like vampire TV shows.

4 – Legacies – Netflix.

Legacies follows Hope, daughter of Klaus and Hailey, on her journey as a tri hybrid teenager, the only one of her kind, at Salvatore School, in Mystic Falls.

The episodes have a lot of teenage drama, suspense and magic, and involves other magical creatures that are gradually emerging in the episodes, in addition to vampires, witches and werewolves. Some TVD characters are part of or eventually appear in the serie and you already can find two seasons available on Netflix. The serie is more to the teen side, but it is also very interesting and catchy to watch. I finished the two seasons this week and I cannot wait to the next seasons to see what will be the Hope’s destiny, and what will happen with Landon, the Saltzman twins and the other characters.

5 – Virgin River – Netflix.

Virgin River is a more calm but very catchy series to watch. It involves drama, romance and a little suspense too. The show was renewed for a 10-episode second season and you can watch all the first season on Netflix now.

Virgin River follows Melinda “Mel” Monroe, who answers an ad to work as a midwife and nurse practitioner in the remote California town of Virgin River, thinking it will be the perfect place to start fresh and leave her painful memories behind. But she soon discovers that small-town living isn’t quite as simple as she expected. She must learn to heal herself before she can truly make Virgin River her home. (wikipedia synopsis).

6 – Workin’ moms – Netflix.

Workin’ Moms is a Canadian television sitcom and is one of the funniest I’ve watched lately. It has a lot of drama and complicated situations of a group of four friends dealing with the challenges of being working mothers. But also has hilarious scenes and makes you have a lot of fun and get attached to the struggling, funny and brave way of Kate Foster, one of the main characters.

7 – Lost in Space – Netflix.

If you like sci-fi and adventures on Space, you’ll love Lost in Space! That is an American science fiction television series and is a reimagining of the 1965 series of the same name (also a reimagining of the 1812 novel The Swiss Family Robinson), following the adventures of the Robinson’s, a family of space colonists whose spaceship veers and all them get lost in the middle of a strange planet.

I love TV shows about space and I’ve watched the first full season of Lost in Space. I will start watching the second one as well soon. The series will be renewed for a third and final season, and the first two are also available on Netflix now.

In the aftermath of an impact event that threatens the survival of humanity, the Robinson family is selected for the 24th mission of the Resolute (24th Colonist Group), an interstellar spacecraft carrying selected families to colonize the Alpha Centauri star system. Before they reach their destination, an alien robot breaches the Resolutes hull. Forced to evacuate the mothership in short-range Jupiter spacecraft, scores of colonists, among them the Robinsons, crash on a nearby habitable planet. There they must contend with a strange environment and battle their own personal demons as they search for a way back to the Resolute. (wikipedia synopsis).

8 – The Crown – Netflix.

The crown was my favorite series from the last year and I just loved the first two seasons. But I must confess that I got a little discouraged with the third. The series follows the political rivalries and romance of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and the events that shaped the second half of the 20th century, from her wedding in 1947 through to the early 2000s.

The third season takes place years after the first two, with the Queen already more mature and used to the obligations of her reign. And because of this passage of time, all the actors have changed.

Well, I’m the kind of person who gets attached to some characters and the actors who play them too. I don’t think the series is worse or anything like that. It continues with the same majesty and detail of the first two and the new cast is absurdly incredible. But how I was used to the old actors, I felt a little disconnected with the history watching the third season. But anyway… there are still a few episodes for me to watch and you can watch all the three seasons on Netflix right now. Please, after watching, tell me in the comments which season do you prefer!

9 – Gossip Girl – Netflix.

Gossip Girl was always my favorite series when I was younger and I’ve already watched all the episodes three times. The series follows privileged teenagers living on the Upper East Side of New York, which ones can hide no secret from the ruthless blogger who is always watching.

Serena Van Der Woodsen is a blonde and beautiful socialite. Everyone knows Serena. Blair Waldorf is Serena’s best friend but it’s always about Serena not Blair. Nate Archibald is Blair’s boyfriend but ever since Serena came back from boarding school Nate has been acting strange. Chuck Bass is a rich and arrogant person. Daniel Humphrey, a lonely boy from Brooklyn, NY, who nobody knows. Follow the lives of this guilty pleasure show. (IMDB synopsis).

I could’t find a decent official trailer to add here, so here are some options on IMDB website:

10 – Fuller House – Netflix.

If you watched Full House as a child, you will love to follow the new adventures of the Tanner-Fuller family in this sequence of the series, which takes place years later, with DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy already as adults.

I always heard about the new series and vaguely remembered watching Full House when I was young, every morning before the school time. But only in September last year, I decided to give it a try and I put an episode to watch on a day when I was really sick, to try to distract myself a little. And I ended up, once again, completely addicted to the series. I’ve watched all the seasons available in weeks and I’m waiting for the second part of the 5th and final season on Netflix, that will be released even this year.

Fuller House is an American sitcom, and is a sequel to the 1987–1995 television series Full House. It centers around D.J. Tanner-Fuller, a veterinarian and widowed mother of three sons, whose sister Stephanie and best friend Kimmy – along with her teenage daughter – live together at the Tanners’ childhood home in San Francisco, California. (Wikipedia synopsis).

11 – The Good Place – Netflix.

The Good Place is one of the funniest ever too! But for me, also teaches us many lessons about love and why to be a good person. I watched the three first seasons and you can also watch all them on Netflix. The series was renewed for a fourth and final season that will be released soon.

The series is set in an afterlife in which humans are sent to the “Good Place” or the “Bad Place” after death: all humans are assigned a numerical score based on the morality of their conduct in life. Only those with the very highest scores are sent to the Good Place, where they enjoy eternal happiness with their every wish granted, guided by an artificial intelligence named Janet; all else experience an eternity of torture in the Bad Place. (Wikipedia synopsis).

12 – Jane The Virgin – Netflix.

I watched all the five seasons, and how I miss to follow the episodes of Jane’s complicated life, and the funniest things made by Rogelio de la Vega! I think that in a few months or maybe a year, I’ll watch it all over again. The series is super funny, besides have all that drama and romance typical of a good Telenovela Mexicana.

Set in Miami, the series details the surprising and dramatic events that take place in the life of Jane Gloriana Villanueva, a hard-working, religious, young, Venezuelan-American woman. Jane’s vow to save her virginity until marriage becomes seemingly false when a doctor mistakenly artificially inseminates her during a checkup. To make matters worse, the biological father is a married man, a former playboy, and a cancer survivor who is not only the new owner of the hotel where Jane works but was also her former teenage crush. In addition, to adjusting to pregnancy and then motherhood, Jane is faced with questions about her professional future and the daunting prospect of choosing between the father of her baby or her detective boyfriend. (wikipedia synopsis).

13 – Stranger Things – Netflix.

Eleven is my favorite character ever on that series! The episodes are full of horror and suspense, but with a sweet touch of a small town and the innocent routine of the children. The series bring several references to the 80’s decade, such as fashion and lifestyle at that time and even having horror scenes, I found it super cool and catchy to watch with the whole family.

Stranger Things is an American science fiction, drama-horror web television series that is set in the fictional rural town of Hawkins, Indiana, during the early 1980s. The first season focuses on the investigation into the disappearance of a young boy among supernatural events occurring around the town, including the appearance of a girl with psychokinetic abilities. (wikipedia synopsis).

14 – Sex and the City – Prime Video.

Who has never watched Sex and the City, the movies and cheered for Carrie and Ms. Big? If you’ve never watched the two movies, they’re super worth watching. I love both and I also watch them a million times. The movies are available on Netflix and on Amazon Prime Video. But talking about the series…

Sex and the City is an American romantic comedy-drama television series and it is an adaptation of Candace Bushnell’s 1997 book of the same name. The series was filmed mostly in New York city from 1998 to 2014 and has 94 episodes broadcast over six seasons, which are all also available on Prime Video.

Set and filmed in New York City, the show follows the lives of a group of four women—three in their mid-thirties and one in her forties – who, despite their different natures and ever-changing sex lives, remain inseparable and confide in each other. the series had multiple continuing storylines that tackled relevant and modern social issues, while exploring the difference between friendships and romantic relationships. (wikipedia synopsis).

Not one single decent official trailer too, but follow some options below:

15 – The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – Prime Video.

I need to say that I’m completely in love with Mrs Maisel, and how strong and brave she is, even living in the middle of the 50’s.

The setting and costumes of the 50’s are simply incredible and the series minutely reproduced many aspects of New York from that time. The history has several moments of tension and drama, but also hilarious scenes and characters.

16 – Upload – Prime Video.

Upload will release on May 1st on Amazon Prime and I put it here because I watched the trailer and I thought it will be very funny and interesting to watch. So, I decided to recommend for you.
